Blog entries about the Port of Illahee from December 07 through the present
Commissioners' biographies:
George Schaefer:
- I have been a Bremerton resident since November, 1964 and a resident of the Illahee Community since December 1982.
- I am retired from Naval Surface Warfare Center as a civilian employee and from Olympic College Information Technology Department as a Network Administrator.
- I am currently employed part-time as a bookkeeper in my wife’s business.
- I was first elected Illahee Port Commissioner in November, 2001 to fill an unfinished term.
Dennis Sheeran:
I was born and raised in Denver Colorado where my love of the outdoors was cultivated by exposure to the Rocky Mountains, its forests, streams, lakes and wildlife. I left Colorado at the age of 19 and spent the next 24 years serving in the medical field of the U. S. Navy from which I retired in 1996 here in Bremerton, WA. I have my Bachelor of Science degree in Health Sciences from George Washington University and my Masters of Science degree in Education from Old Dominion University. I have lived here in Illahee since 1993, first on University Point and now in Illahee Landing. I was first appointed as Port Commissioner in 1999 and was elected in 2004 for a six year term.
Mike Mantzke:
I was born and educated in Bremerton. I earned an A.A.S. from Olympic College. I did Humanitarian Service in Japan for 18 months. I still speak Japanese well. I have lived in Illahee since 1986. My Grandparents bought the home I now occupy in 1944. I raised my four children here and we often enjoyed using the Illahee Dock. I have been a volunteer administrator in my church for ten years. I currently oversee membership and financial records and conduct performance audits. I have been a self-employed General Contractor since 1997. I am familiar with the design, engineering, permitting, budgeting and construction process. In this exciting time of expansion of the port’s holdings, I believe that my skills and experience would benefit the Port of Illahee.
