Illahee Issues

As Kitsap’s population grows, the Illahee community is threatened by greater housing density that will detract from our quality of life. The application for the proposed MT Illahee development, now challenged legally by the citizens of Illahee, would take advantage of legacy lots on 30 acres of historic Illahee to double the housing density previously allowed. The proposed Timber’s Edge development along Fir Drive would also squeeze a large number of houses into a small space.

If these two projects proceed as planned, the results will be deleterious to our community: an impediment to the recharging of the aquifer that feeds Illahee Creek; an increase in traffic noise; a displacement of wildlife in the area; and increased storm water runoff that would further deteriorate water quality around the Illahee Dock, the focal point of the community and a recreational area for swimmers, boaters, and divers.
